Basic Types of Fuels Used for Forklifts
In distribution, industrial and construction settings, powered lift trucks or forklifts are normally utilized to perform lots of tasks. These heavy-duty equipment are intended to be tough and reliable so they are capable of moving heavy things in all different types of conditions and environments. Forklifts are powered by many types of fuels and thus could adapt to a lot of different work environments.

Electricity
Producing no emissions, the electric forklifts are very quiet and reliable. These units could operate on industrial-strength large batteries that are made to be able to be successfully recharged around 1500 times throughout their functional lifespan. Since electric forklifts produce no exhaust fumes, it is usually the machine of necessity and choice in places which have inadequate ventilation. These forklifts need a charging station somewhere on the premises that is equipped with an eyewash station and emergency acid spill kit because of the batteries. For safety reasons, the charging area needs to be ventilated well.

Propane
The modern forklift usually uses liquid propane. Propane offers different benefits over diesel and electric models. For instance, propane usually costs less compared to electricity. When recharging the battery, there is no need to remove the lift truck from service.

Propane units also provide a much cleaner operation compared to forklifts which are powered by diesel. In most instances, a propane forklift is refueled by simply changing out the empty propane tank with a new full one. Typically, an off-site supplier will re-fill the tanks. This ensures an easy, safe and fast re-fueling process.

Diesel and Gasoline
As forklifts that use diesel or gasoline produce smelly exhaust, they require more maintenance. They have fairly high fuel costs too. Because they have a useful and much longer lifespan, they are rather dependable than electric or propane models. Re-fueling needs a fuel supply on site which follows strict health and safety codes. Gas and diesel models are mainly used in outdoor applications on rough terrain, like for example on construction sites or in lumber yard environments.
