Prior to purchasing a used or new forklift, there are several factors that you should take into account. Consider the following items prior to choosing.
Step 1: What precisely are your requirements?
Knowing both the types and weight of your loads should be taken into account. Think about the maximum lifting height that you would require. Determine whether you would be using the forklift outdoors or indoors, or both. Measure the width of your narrowest aisles and calculate how much maneuvering space there is. What would be the duration of use per day when it comes to hours?
Step 2: Is a used forklift your best option?
If you will be utilizing the forklift four hours per day or less, you can likely get away with purchasing used.
Step 3: Fuel options
As electric forklifts are relatively quiet and produce no exhaust emissions, they are suitable for indoor applications. They have large batteries that should last eight hours before needing to be recharged. The purchase cost of electric forklifts is higher, but the costs of operation are lower. On the plus side, they do not need fuel storage area. They also tend to last longer as they have fewer moving parts. On the other hand, the time it takes to recharge the battery must be factored in. This could take up to 16 hours, including recharging and cooling. And battery recharging stations might be required.
Step 4: Tire choice
Cushion tires are used in forklifts. There are some choices when it comes to tires. Some are fabricated of solid rubber, a few are inflated, and some combine qualities of both - solid pneumatic tires. For indoor use, cushion tires are recommended. For outdoor operation, pneumatic tires are better. Solid pneumatic tires are less likely to be punctured by rough terrain or sharp objects so they are the best choice for risky conditions.
Step 5: Think about additional alternatives
When buying a used or new forklift truck, think about additional options. Look at the different attachments which you might require to customize your forklift. Check out the safety features and ergonomics of the lift truck
Step 6: Evaluate your alternatives
In order to know what type of forklift really meets your requirements, renting various models and brands is a good idea. A good dealer will agree to help you with this. This will ensure that the model you finally purchase is the right one for your needs. Be sure to consult with your dealer.
